List of MBA Examinations Conducted in India

It's as important as your preparation that you apply for the right programmes and B-Schools. To help aspirants reduce the effort of finding and applying for the MBA programmes, we are sharing a complete and comprehensive list of MBA exams conducted in India.*

National Tests:


  • Common Admission Test (CAT): CAT is computer based test annually conducted by one of the Indian Institute of Management (IIMs). The test is generally conducted on a single day with a test duration of around 3 hours during the months of November/December. In addition to IIMs, the score is also used for admission to management programmes of IITs, IISc, NITs, BITS, MDI, SPJIMR etc. and other central universities, colleges. The key to fair good in this test remains accuracy and speed.
  • Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT): XAT is a paper-pen based test annually conducted by XLRI for admissions to MBA programmes of XLRI as well as other member/associated institutes. The test is conducted for a duration of three-and-half  hours. Along with quantitative, verbal, GK questions, the test also has questions on decision making ability and essay writing.
  • Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) Entrance Test: The test is conducted annually by the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) for admission to their MBA programmes. It is a paper-pen based objective test with duration of 2 hours and is conducted on a single day during the months of October/November. Speed and GK remains a key to crack the test. With student intake of roughly 300, the test witnesses an applicant count of 50,000 every year. 
  • Common Management Admission Test (CMAT): CMAT is a national level test conducted by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). It is a computer based test conducted once in a year during the month of January with a test duration of 3 hours. The score is accepted by major state level accredited institutes. Some of the IIITs and NITs also accept CMAT score for their MBA programmes.
  • Symbiosis National Aptitude Test (SNAP): SNAP is an annual pen paper based objective test conducted by Symbiosis International University (SIU) for admissions to Management programmes of affiliated institutes of the university. The test is conducted in the month of  December with test duration of two hours.
  • Management Aptitude Test (MAT): MAT is a quarterly test conducted in months of February, May, September, December. It is conducted both in paper-pen and computer based format with a test duration of two-and-half hours. It is conducted by AIMA and the score is accepted by over 600 B-Schools.
  • AIMS Test for Management Admissions (ATMA): ATMA is a national test for admission to MBA and MCA programmes and is conducted by Association of Indian Management Schools (AIMS). It is also a computer based test and is conducted four times in a year.
